How to clear your history


Clearing your history is important. It prevents those who share your computer from seeing what websites you have been browsing. First, select your web browser and follow the steps to learn how to delete your history.



Microsoft Internet Explorer Mozilla FirefoxSafariOpera Google Chrome Netscape Navigator

Microsoft Internet Explorer


  1. Select "Tools"
  2. Select "Internet Options" (see picture to the right)
  3. On the "General" tab, under the "Browsing History" section, select "Delete..."
  4. Make sure that the following are check-marked: Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, and History
  5. Click "Delete" and your browsing history should be cleared.

For older versions

If you are using Internet Explorer 6

  1. Select "Tools"
  2. Select "Internet Options" (see picture to the right)
  3. On the "General" tab, under the "History" section, select "Clear History"
  4. Select "Yes" on the next dialogue and your history will be cleared.

 

Mozilla Firefox


  1. Select "Tools"
  2. Select "Clear Recent History..." (see picture to the right)
  3. "Time range to clear:" should read "Everything"
  4. Expand the arrow next to "Details"
  5. Select the following: "Browsing and Download History", "Form & Search History", "Cookies", and "Cache"
  6. Select "Clear Now" to clear your browsing history.

 

Safari


SAFARI

  1. Select "History"
  2. Select "Clear History" (see picture to the right)
  3. If you follow steps 1 and 2 again and notice that "History" is no longer highlighted, then you're history has been cleared.

 

Opera


OPERA

  1. Select "Tools"
  2. Select "Delete private data..." (see picture to the right)
  3. On the next dialogue titled "Delete Private Data", click "Details"
  4. Select all options except "Clear e-mail account passwords" and "Clear all Wand passwords"
  5. If you selected the bottom option, "Close all tabs" then your browser will close after deleting history
  6. Click on "Delete" to delete your browsing history

 

Google Chrome


CHROME

  1. Click on the wrench icon and then click "Options" (see picture to the right)
  2. On the "Personal Stuff" tab, navigate to the "Browsing Data" category
  3. Select "Clear browsing data..."
  4. Select all options except "Clear saved passwords"
  5. In the area "Clear data from this period" select "Everything"
  6. Click on "Clear Browsing Data" to delete your browsing history

Netscape Navigator


  1. Under "Edit", click "Prefrences"
  2. Scroll to "Navigator" and select "History"
  3. Select "Clear History" and "Clear Location Bar"
  4. Select "OK" and your history should be cleared
